Now in its 13th year, Daniel's Bistro is firmly and famously established on the gastro scene in Leith - the waterside district of Edinburgh that now boasts the highest concentration of restaurants per capita outside of London. Located in an old bonded whisky warehouse, Daniel's sits opposite the majestic Scottish Government buildings, near the Ocean Terminal retail complex. This restaurant is certainly turning heads; it has been repeatedly voted as, not only one of the best, but also one of the friendliest and most intriguing restaurants in the area.
A Franco-Scottish love affair is evident in the dishes on offer - expect to find a menu scattered with delicacies like supreme of pheasant with haggis, fillets of sole interlaced with saumon marin' Provencal, and moules marinieres d'Ecosse; along with specialities from France and Alsace like cassoulet, beef bourguignon, tarte flambée Strasbourgeoise, fillet of beef 'au Roquefort', and chunky knuckle of pork. The desserts, which are all homemade, simply must be tasted to be believed. Try the gateau de pain perdu, (an old-style French bread-and-butter pudding), a wonderfully dark bitter chocolate marquise, or a creme brûlée - these perfect puddings are widely regarded as the best in the city. The wine list, which features some strong personal recommendations from Daniel himself, covers the whole world and is designed to please all tastebuds. Welcome to Daniel's.
