The relaxed ambience, the very friendly service, reasonable pricing and unique food have brought Chop Chop many accolades, including 'Best Chinese Restaurant in Scotland' from the Tsingtao Beer Company and an appearance on Gordon Ramsay's F-Word as one of the two best local Chinese restaurants in the UK.

Chop Chop is a unique restaurant serving north-eastern Chinese cuisine, which is very different from the Chinese dishes normally found in the UK. Of the 101 dishes on the menu, very few are likely to be found in other restaurants. Even though this kind of authentic food is highly regarded in China, it is so far virtually unknown elsewhere. Dongbei (north eastern) dishes are characterised by their freshness and simplicity, being made with liberal use of coriander, ginger or garlic with the flavour of the main ingredient prevailing over all else. No preservatives, additives, colourings or bought-in sauces are used. North-eastern Chinese dumplings are famous throughout China for their delicacy and juiciness. Chop Chop specialises in dumpling dishes, and there are over 30 of these delicious little morsels to choose from. The style of serving at Chop Chop is 'Chinese tapas', with a choice of small or large portions, giving the customer the opportunity to enjoy many taste sensations in one meal. The servers encourage diners to order collectively and share all the dishes, Chinese-style.

The decor is that of a typical Asian eatery: canteen-style and open plan, with moveable tables. The informal atmosphere, flexible seating arrangements and sharing of dishes lend themselves perfectly to group dining, and Chop Chop regularly attracts large groups of between ten and 20 guests - a great buzz is generated by the excited chatter of happy diners.

The carefully selected wine list, with low mark-ups, is priced to match the modest food prices - prices range from £10.85 for house wine up to a maximum of £16.50 for a Pinot Noir. A selection of 14 different bottled beers from all over the world provides a good alternative. The second branch of Chop Chop will open in the spring of 2010 at 76 Commercial Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6LX.
