Good-quality Mexican restaurants, serving homemade food at affordable prices, are few and far between in Edinburgh. Situated in a basement space in Stockbridge, the interior of Blue Parrot Cantina is homely and invitingly candlelit. The open kitchen is visible from the restaurant and the noises and aromas that drift temptingly from this hub of activity certainly whet the appetite. From the list of appetisers we chose the fantastic bean soup and the quesadillas with chorizo, coolly lifted by the pico de gallo salsa. My guest went for the vegetable fajitas while I chose a chicken and cashew chimichanga. The vegetables in the fajita were crisp and tangy, and my chimichanga was a hearty feast of tender chicken, lashings of fresh homemade salsa and moreish guacamole, with rice and refried beans. For a relaxing place to enjoy simple and tasty Mexican food, the Blue Parrot Cantina is the perfect choice.
