As the name suggests, Bijou is a small and unassuming place, but don’t be fooled – Bijou is a big name in the Leith community. The half a dozen tables looking out onto Restalrig Road, low lighting and a cosy ambience lend this fully licensed bistro a charming Continental feel. Whether the slow-roasted venison casserole takes your fancy, or the baked stuffed Romano peppers with a Parmesan crust, you can choose from three portion sizes: bijou, medium or main. In fact, the way the menu is organised makes so much sense you wonder why this approach to dining isn’t more common. And where else can you take away a bacon sandwich in the morning and then visit in the evening to savour a candlelit three-course meal? For its unbeatable choice of dining options and the quality and price of its home-cooked food, Bijou is a little treasure in Edinburgh’s harbour district.
