River View Chinese Restaurant
River View Chinese Restaurant is, as its name suggests, located on the river’s edge. In the summer guests can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy their meal alfresco while basking in the sunshine. If the weather isn’t on your side, however, fear not, as there’s plenty of room in the cosy yet contemporary restaurant.
We were guided upstairs by the owner, who promptly suggested a medium-bodied Chilean white wine to start. After being guided through the wide selection of dishes on the menu, we ordered the chicken skewers, salt and pepper squid and pork dumplings as appetisers. The chicken was tender and the squid cooked to the perfect texture; diced peppers and chillies were layered on top of it, giving the dish a spicy punch. We followed this with silky smooth tofu in black bean sauce and sizzling prawns in garlic. Presentation was beautiful – tiny floral features carved out of potatoes, colourful beds of purple cabbage, and my favourite touch: dumplings held in cups of lettuce like delicate Christmas parcels.
The meal concluded with a pot of green tea shared between two small cups – a warming and refreshing finish to a memorable evening. The restaurant’s fantastic cuisine can also be ordered to take away, although I highly recommend eating in and enjoying the full River View dining experience.
