In the historic town of Cowbridge you'll find Huddart's Restaurant. The beautiful Georgian house, dating back to 1765, is a delightful eatery boasting a selection of à la carte dishes with old-time charm and modern splendour.

Daytime, enjoy a business lunch with prices ranging from £4.25 for a starter to £8.50 for a main course. In the evening, be prepared to choose from an unusually good prix fixé menu - an excellent starting point for new customers and great value at £20.95 for three courses and cofcardif fee.

You'll find the main menu simply irresistible. Choose from decadent starters such as roast quail in thyme (£6.75) and inventive mains like monkfish in orange beurre blanc sauce with a dash of gin (£15.95). An intriguing vegetarian option is the aubergine gâteau (£11.95) and the saddle of Welsh lamb (£16.25) from Penllyne, is a house speciality. All produce is sourced locally and prepared on the premises by owner and chef Andrew Huddart.

Perhaps you'll decide to finish with the amaretto and brandy choux bun (£5.95 - my favourite) and wash it down with a choice from the vast selection of international wines. There's certainly an emphasis on quality at Huddart's. Small but perfectly formed, the mood is tranquil, the service impeccable, as evidenced by winning the South Wales Echo Restaurant of the Year award for 2002 and 2004.
