Castle Douglas
Crown Hotel
Margaret Fraser moved from Kinross to the Crown Hotel for a new challenge. She is a young-at-heart, lively lady who is not afraid of hard work. The Crown was sadly in a bad state of repair when she arrived; 'at the bottom of a pit without a ladder' is an understatement, but Margaret has refined and reworked not only the fixtures and fittings but also the staff and menu.
The Crown now has two skilled and competent chefs, David and Davie, both of whom have worked in Castle Douglas before so understand the local and visiting clientele - they hope to fulfil the need for good, fresh, home-produced meals for the whole family at competitive prices. The bar is run by jovial duo Michael and Scott, who will happily rustle you up anything from a pint of locally-brewed ale to a strong malt whisky. The dining room is small and welcoming, comfortably seating upwards of 30 people; the Crown is more than equipped to host intimate meetings or small family parties either with meals at set prices or buffets. They are also hoping to run monthly themed nights and ask all those who are interested to send their email address to add to the ever-increasing mailing list. Special menus are available to make occasions such as Mother's Day extra special, and there is a regular Sunday lunch menu too. All of this is delivered by simply charming staff, resulting in a simply wonderful dining experience.
