The Ty Mawr
This country pub boasts arguably the best views from any pub in the area. Set 20 minutes north of the city centre, The Ty Mawr is perched on the rolling hills near Lisvane. Peering out of the windows with a pint of Brains cask ale in hand, you can see across the whole city – and even on to the Bristol Channel when the skies are clear. The menu offers contemporary pub food, with some traditional comforts thrown in for good measure, and the chefs source local ingredients whenever they can. All food is prepared to order, and even vegetables and herbs grown in The Ty Mawr’s own gardens are used. Tuck into braised brisket of beef, with carrot and swede mash and red cabbage, a lamb rump with red wine and redcurrant jus, green beans and garlic potatoes, or perhaps go for a lighter option such as the Port and Stilton rarebit. A huge lawned beer garden is great in the summer months. On colder winter days, cosy up inside by the roaring log fire and sip on something from the fantastic wine list.
