The Cricketers
Just a stone’s throw from Glamorgan’s cricket ground and a short walk from the city centre and the Millennium Stadium, this traditional pub was voted ‘Best Food Pub in Wales 2011’ by the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.
Head chef Chris Brown places great emphasis on fresh produce teamed with quality cooking. His main menu changes seasonally, whilst a daily specials board offers exciting alternatives to the norm – you may well sample a dish you’ve never tried before. Starters range from scallops, baked in the shell, to spiced Bombay fishcakes. For mains, be tempted by oxtail faggots, pan-roasted hake with mustard puy lentils or perhaps try the pork board for two including pork belly, tenderloin, apple sauce and tasty crackling. To end to your meal, The Cricketers’ classic treacle tart comes highly recommended.
Sunday lunch is a big event here. Freshly prepared vegetables with perfect roasties and Yorkshire puddings complement juicy roast beef or Welsh lamb. The Cricketers also serves a selection of quality Welsh cask ales from Evan Evans brewery. Enjoy a pint of the award-winning cwrw sat by the open fire in winter, or soaking up the sun in the summer beer garden. The Cricketers offers a reason to visit whatever the weather.
