This recently refurbished pub and restaurant, found in the Pontcanna district of Cardiff, is a hidden treasure. Modernity meets comfort with a mix of original and new furniture, solid wood flooring and a huge feature bookcase crammed with games and books for customers to use at their leisure. The food is presented on a chalkboard menu filled with inventive dishes and pub classics to choose from. Head chef Stefan Nilsson reviews his menus on a daily basis: if a dish runs out, it is soon replaced with a new one, ensuring continuous variety. Our first sample was The Conway Scotch egg served with wholegrain mustard mayonnaise and rocket salad - simply superb. Our main dishes were equally impressive, further demonstrating a love for time-honoured British cuisine and produced with imagination. For dessert we savoured a cheeseboard with a modern twist and The Conway Mocha Experience, based on the idea of coffee and biscuits with friends - combining homemade shortbread biscuits, chocolate mousse, milk froth and espresso coffee, this is one not to miss. Community involvement is key to the way in which The Conway is run; all food and wine is sourced from local suppliers, prices are very reasonable considering the high standard of food, and customer suggestions are always welcomed. With Sunday roasts and a homemade children's menu also on offer, The Conway's individuality and stunning food will appeal to all.
