Salingers Restaurant continues to retain its excellent reputation as one of the best restaurants in South Wales. This untraditionally British modern eatery introduces a delicious and varied menu that includes grills and steaks, salads and a selection of dishes from the Far East.

The busy and spacious restaurant is tastefully decorated, with immaculately kept furniture, low lighting, modern paintings and sculptures. The promptly served, freshly prepared food fits the ambience; dishes, chosen from a wide-ranging menu that's designed to suit all tastes, are served with finesse.

I started with the salmon, jalapeño and spring onion fishcake (£4.25), which was excellent, before moving on to the ricotta and spinach tortellini (£7.45) - also delicious. My companion ordered the 8oz salmon fillet (£8.95), served with potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables.

The menu also tempts and pleases the most discerning vegetarian palate, offering a superb selection of meat-free fare. And with an imaginative selection of light meals and creative monthly specials, you're always in for a treat here. And don't forget about Salingers' notoriously decadent puddings (from £3.25).

With an admirable selection of fine wines, too, this restaurant certainly has everything a good diner wants. The traditional nature, combined with a busy yet relaxed atmosphere, makes it the perfect destination for all occasions

Village Cardiff is warm and welcoming with professional and helpful service. The hotel offers a range of facilities, including meeting and conference rooms, swimming pool, treatment rooms and a fully equipped gym.

Clean and crisp, this is a fun place to be and provides excellent value for money. And the restaurant is lively and friendly - so much so that it made me want to return with all my friends. In fact, that's just what I have planned.
