Mina is one of those places that you're not expecting to find, but that somehow seems to fit so perfectly in a particular area that it becomes one of its defining features. Ask far and wide, and anyone whose opinion is worth soliciting will concur - Mina is practically faultless. Enter this cosy, unassuming little restaurant and instantly feel enveloped in its warmth and charisma. Warm reds and raffia matting provide ethnic charm, and the staff will help you to feel right at home.

Lebanese and Mediterranean food always bring the promise of sunshine, so as you nibble your meze and sip your full-bodied Hochar (Lebanese wine), allow yourself to be transported for a while. Meze are, of course, great sharing dishes, and the choice here is exceptional, with both hot and cold selections. Try classic hummus from the cold selection, or moutabal, which is garlicky chargrilled aubergine with tahini; and fluffy tabouli with fresh chopped parsley, diced tomatoes, mint, onions and cracked wheat tossed with lemon juice and herbs. The warm meze features delights such as jawaneh - marinated chicken wings - falafel and kibba, which is a deep-fried cracked wheat shell filled with seasoned minced lamb, onion and roasted pine nuts - all tasty treats not to be missed.

But be sure to leave room for the main course dishes. Specials like Mina lamb are noteworthy for demonstrating quality ingredients cooked by someone who understands their craft. The same can be said of the lamb cous cous, the shish taouk and, in fact, just about everything. Don't just take my word for it - a quick peek in the guest book sees page after page of happy punters declaring the hummus to be 'the tastiest in the world', that the staff are 'really into the food and very knowledgeable', and that they would 'highly recommend giving it a try'. Amply satisfied, the only thing left to argue about will be deciding who discovered this little gem of a restaurant first.
