Daiquiri's is a world away from the manufactured Mexican eateries we have all become accustom to. The hands on care of its hard working owners, a husband and wife team who've run the restaurant for more than seven years, have achieved the perfect balance of quality and quantity.

The excellence of the food is not up for debate here, and the standards set during the restaurant's previous life as more of a fine dining establishment have been upheld, but the pretensions have been dropped. The resulting warm, homely atmosphere created through clever use of bright colours, ambient lighting, as well as a well thought-out floor plan, allows for both intimacy and bonhomie. You can even book a fiesta for up to 65 people here.

The food was astonishing. I had humungous paella bursting with chicken, chorizo, prawns and bacon for £7.95, while my partner had the vegetable chilli burrito with oodles of sour cream, cheese and refried beans for £6.50. With a choice of 12 burgers, seven salads and myriad cocktails, there's no chance of menu fatigue setting in, as confirmed by the many regulars streaming in for some Mexican sizzle on a glum January night.
