Momma Cherri’s Soul Food
Momma Cherri’s Soul Food – a slice of the southern States sitting in the heart of Brighton. Excellent food, great service and a friendly atmosphere make you feel right at home. Stars and stripes drip from lampshades, and adorning the walls you’ll notice Momma Cherri’s many prestigious awards and success stories, including her recent cookbook release. The menu offers a selection of the finest soul food, made with authentic, homemade sauces, beautifully cooked and locally sourced. Essential imported American beer is on offer and a comprehensive cocktail list is there for that extra extravagance. We opted for the famous Ramsay-inspired ‘soul in a bowl’. In our selection of soul tapas we got huge crispy onion rings, satisfying homemade cornbread, delicate catfish goujons and the finest buffalo wings with explosive Louisiana hot sauce. For mains: juicy barbecue pork ribs laced with paprika; spice-infused jambalaya dotted with mouth-watering morsels; refreshing chilli gumbo; and the best macaroni cheese in town. As for the key lime pie – simply divine; and my companion’s pecan pie was nutty, caramelised harmony. Momma Cherri’s welcomes families, with good child-friendly facilities including a toy cupboard and children’s menu. There are two extra dining rooms upstairs as well as a conference room that can be hired. A soul music night takes place every other Saturday – I urge you to step into Momma Cherri’s Soul Food and let your hair down. Absolutely, thoroughly, utterly recommended.
