Bridgend
Leicester's Restaurant
Leicester's Restaurant at The Great House Hotel in Laleston Bridgend, has featured in good food guides and been winning awards for 20 years, and is still going strong. It must be the enthusiasm of owners Norma and Stephen Bond, who are still very much hands-on in the dayto- day running of the restaurant, and ensures a remarkably good dining experience every time.
The menu which Norma and head chef Stuart Bevan together compile, is an eclectic mix. Quietly uncomplicated and sophisticated dishes, which would not be out of place on the menu at a top London restaurant, are created using only locally bought, often organic meat and fish. I enjoyed the best organic chicken and chips I've tasted for a long time.
Apart from the beautiful 15th century surroundings, which have been so lovingly restored, another unique feature you will Experience is their dessert trolley. No shop bought frozen sweets and puddings here, every dessert is a real work of art - almost too good to cut into. Old-fashioned favourites like spotted dick, treacle sponge pudding and pear and apple crumble served with real vanilla pod custard, also feature - yum. Did I mention the staff really enjoy serving you?
Too good to be true? Over the years their following of loyal satisfied customers has grown, we recommend you try Leicester's Restaurant and give yourself a well-deserved treat.
