Monnington Lodge is situated on a hilltop near the picturesque village of Blackwood, boasting fabulous views down the Sirhowey Valley towards the city of Newport. With its fresh and contemporary look and friendly staff and management, it's the ideal setting in which to enjoy many an occasion.

The bar and restaurant areas have undergone some changes, including the introduction of a new menu with which the head chef has managed to cater for all tastes, offering a wide and varied selection of dishes. So if you're looking for great food and fabulous prices, then the Lodge is the place to entertain family, friends and business colleagues.

If you fancy something traditional to start, then a prawn cocktail or homemade soup may be right up your street. For the adventurous diner, oven-baked Camembert or a bowl of delicious mussels may suffice. Or, what about something from the grill? The famous 24oz mixed grill with home-cut chips is definitely worth a try. If you're looking for a more unusual treat, sample the Black Beef curry served with rice and chips - a dish that certainly hits the spot. If you're not particularly hungry, then we would suggest sampling one of the 'light bite' options, which includes a selection of jacket potatoes and a number of freshly prepared salads. The dessert selection is varied, mouth-watering and often includes homemade dishes such as bread and butter pudding and deeply filled apple pie.

This delightful country inn, set in its own grounds, is at the heart of a small community and offers a variety of facilities. Business and travelling customers can also benefit from the high-standard accommodation, comprising 15 en-suite bedrooms, which have all recently been tastefully decorated, and now offer colour televisions, tea and coffee making facilities, direct-dial telephones and wireless internet access throughout. The private function room is ideal for business meetings and presentations. Once you've visited this highly regarded eatery, you can rest assured you'll be returning for your second helping of great ales, beers and wide selection of food and wine.
