A pebble’s skip from Barry’s lovely beaches and coastal entertainments, New Oriental Diner is a great choice, whatever the size or nature of your get-together. The interior is tastefully bedecked in Oriental red, with gold flourishes, the seating is comfortable and the atmosphere is lively yet pitched for relaxation.
The menu is an authentic fusion of Cantonese and Peking influences and features a selection of set meal options for groups struggling with the all-important decision making. The ‘multichoice’ menu is a great way to explore new flavours and try something new – for £16.80 per head the chef will create a menu for you and your party to share. Alternatively, diners are invited to choose from the à la carte or go for the eatas- much-as-you-like buffet, offered both at lunchtime and in the evening (£6.50 and £11.90 respectively). I plumped for the à la carte and went for the succulent teriyaki chicken wings to start, moving on to my favourite of king prawns with cashew nuts in a yellow bean sauce. Fluffy mushroom fried rice was the perfect accompaniment and my companion’s beef with ginger and spring onion was equally moreish.
With a five-star food hygiene rating, a takeaway option and delivery on orders over £10, New Oriental Diner caters for nights out and evenings at home too.
Should you be planning a celebration, New Oriental Diner has a private function room upstairs, with the additional option of karaoke facilities. You’ll be singing the praises of New Oriental Diner until the wee small hours.
