Saffy's café is a restaurant that values the provenance of its locally sourced ingredients. The proprietor and chef Douglas Smith, who was once the driving force behind Enterkine House and MacCallum's Oyster Bar at Troon, places the emphasis on sourcing his ingredients from suppliers he trusts to provide the best for his customers. Despite winning numerous awards and the acclaim of critics, Douglas knows that the real people to impress are his diners - and they keep turning up again and again.

Situated in the heart of Ayr, this restaurant provides a dining experience based on a varied menu, and the attentive and knowledgeable staff carefully ensure that you are made welcome throughout your meal. You can enjoy a value-for-money lunch or pre-theatre fixed price menu, or perhaps you'll be tempted by the reasonably priced and exciting à la carte fare.

Scottish beef comes from an Ayrshire farm of some renown, and the lamb from Ballantrae. Fine Scottish seafood, including scallops, king prawns and lobster, comes to Douglas fresh and is transformed into culinary delights. Starters such as tossed smoked salmon salad or peppered duck breast confit offer bold combinations of fresh ingredients. Main courses range from the simplicity of the finest haddock and chips to the dreamy sophistication of pan-fried fillet of Scotch beef with wild mushroom and Madeira sauce. To accompany your meal there is a broad selection of good wines, reflecting and complementing the wide choice of dishes on offer.

The artistry is not just confined to the kitchen - the building was once an artist's studio and the walls are decorated with paintings that blend in with the relaxed atmosphere of a restaurant that exudes an up-to-date ambience while remaining traditional in its values. This not just a café, this is a fine restaurant that must be visited - whether you are a local, a visitor touring Burns country, or perhaps a day tripper on the way to the seaside. Whoever you are, here you will enjoy some of the finest cuisine in southern Scotland.
