The family-run Welsh Harp boasts a fantastic location opposite the picturesque Aberdare Park. The building itself is rumoured to be one of the first in Trecynon, and lying within its ivy-clad stone walls is a restaurant serving up fine food and original recipes, utilising local produce and supporting local businesses in the process. Their commitment to quality was recently recognised with a 'Silver Standard Welsh Food Hygeine' award from the Food Standards Agency.

Beautifully decorated lounge and dining areas provide the perfect settings to relax, and hostess Janet Fowler is on hand to ensure your visit is everything you'd want it to be. Staff will happily guide you through the seasonally changing menu, which might include superb starters such as tender lean lamb confit formed into medallions, sautéed and served with a lemon and thyme sauce. Mains offer something for most tastes, and The Welsh Harp now caters for vegetarian, wheat-free and gluten-free diets - just ask for details. Fish lovers will revel in dishes such as fillet of sea bass wrapped in a succulent salmon coat, separated by a seasoned layer of spinach leaves; whilst hearty meat dishes such as roast crispy skinned duck breast, coated with a blackberry sauce and served with a tian of rice and spring onions, are available too. Sunday lunches here are home cooked and very popular, so advance reservations are imperative. If you haven't already discovered The Welsh Harp for yourself, you are assured an exciting discovery.
